One of the most prominent stars in world football will miss the 2025 Club World Cup due to the Iran-Israel war.
Sky Sports reported that Inter star Mehdi Taremi is stuck in Iran and unable to join the Nerazzurri delegation to the United States.
Due to the war, Iran has closed its airspace to civil aviation and suspended all flights, forcing Taremi to remain in the country until further notice.
The Inter player himself hopes that the war will end soon or that the path will open in some way, allowing him to participate in the upcoming World Cup, even if that seems unlikely at the moment.
Taremi’s absence is undoubtedly a blow for Inter, leaving their attacking lineup limited to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
Italian media had previously reported that the Club World Cup was Taremi’s last chance to prove himself and continue with Inter. Now that he is unable to participate, his departure in the summer transfer window is closer than ever.
The 32-year-old Taremi joined Inter last summer on a free transfer from Porto and has made 43 appearances in all competitions for Simone Inzaghi’s side, scoring just three goals and providing nine assists.
