Botafogo pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 Club World Cup when they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the second round of the group stage.
The European Champions League champions had begun their campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over Atlético Madrid and were eager to defeat the Brazilian club to secure qualification for the round of 16.
But Igor Santos scored the winning goal for Botafogo in the 36th minute, setting the stage for Group B and the qualification battle in the process.

Atlético Madrid had previously defeated Seattle Sounders 3-1, making the American club the first team to be officially eliminated from the World Cup.
Botafogo now leads the group with 6 points, while PSG and Atlético Madrid are in second place with 3 points.
Atletico Madrid now need to win by three goals against Botafogo to qualify for the round of 16, a task that will not seem easy at all.
