Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich and England striker, has reiterated his desire to pursue a professional career in the National Football League (NFL) as a kicker during the latter stages of his athletic journey.
While Kane has no intention of walking away from football in the immediate future, the 33-year-old confirmed that transitioning into an NFL kicker role represents an ambition he plans to evaluate far more seriously down the line.
Speaking on his future ambitions, the England captain stated: “It will depend on what happens with my career over the next five or six years, as well as my motivation and what I want to achieve.”
Kane sees distinct technical and psychological parallels between taking penalties in football and executing placekicks in American football—specifically regarding high-pressure execution and isolating a singular technical action in critical moments.
Furthermore, the striker presented an unconventional vision of potentially combining both sports later in his career, suggesting that a future move to Major League Soccer (MLS) could allow him to align schedules between the MLS and NFL seasons.
The concept is not entirely new for Kane, who first publicly expressed his NFL aspirations in 2019. His passion for the sport stems from his deep admiration for legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, whose trajectory from a late draft pick to a sporting icon provided immense personal inspiration.
Despite his determination, Kane acknowledges that breaking into the NFL will not be guaranteed. Securing a spot as a kicker requires specialized technical training, rigorous tryouts, and athletic testing before earning a contract, rendering the project a long-term goal rather than an imminent retirement transition.
