Slaven Bilić is set to take over as the head coach of the Croatia national football team, succeeding Zlatko Dalić, whose historic tenure concluded at the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Dalić, who famously led the Vatreni to a runner-up finish at the 2018 World Cup and third place in 2022, decided to end his legendary international career following Croatia’s Round of 32 exit against Portugal in the 2026 tournament.
The Croatian Football Federation moved swiftly to name Dalić’s successor, securing a long-term contract with Bilić that runs until the 2030 World Cup. Bilić is no stranger to the role, having previously managed the national team between 2006 and 2012.
Bilić’s First Challenges: UEFA Nations League Ahead
The official announcement of Bilić’s appointment is expected in the coming hours. His first test in charge of Luka Modrić and company will be on September 26, when Croatia kicks off their UEFA Nations League campaign against the Czech Republic. Just three days later, the team faces a blockbuster clash against Spain on Spanish soil.
