Khvicha Kvaratskhelia posted an emotional message following his serious injury with Paris Saint-Germain, receiving supportive words from Cristiano Ronaldo, who sought to boost his morale ahead of his treatment journey.
The Georgian winger’s message came via Instagram after it was confirmed he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Barcelona, with the club announcing he will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Expressing the difficulty of processing what happened, Kvaratskhelia wrote: “Why me? I thought I was ready for everything, but not for this.”
The player explained in the rest of his message that he used to pray to God before every match to leave the pitch unharmed, and that he had prepared for this fixture with great care, but is now required to accept months of work, pain, and tears.
He concluded his message with a promise to those close to him and the fans who supported him: “I will not let you down, and I promise to give everything I have,” affirming his determination to return stronger after overcoming the injury.
Ronaldo replied to the post, saying: “The hardest battles in football are the ones no one sees. I know how you feel, Kvara. Keep your passion, the best is yet to come.”
The Portuguese star’s support holds special value for Kvaratskhelia, who has considered him his childhood idol and previously celebrated getting his shirt after Georgia’s win over Portugal at Euro 2024, a match in which he scored the opening goal.
The 25-year-old also received messages of support from his teammates at Paris and his former club Napoli, after leaving the Barcelona fixture with the help of the medical staff following a challenge with Xavi Espart, as the injury overshadowed the joy of Paris’s 4-2 victory.
