Barcelona has received positive indicators regarding Ronald Araújo’s future, after the Uruguayan defender’s strong start with Liverpool prompted the English club to consider keeping him permanently.
According to journalist Luis Rojo, Liverpool officials are greatly impressed by what the loanee from Barcelona has is offering, and triggering his purchase option has become an option under serious evaluation at Anfield.
The buyout clause stands at 55 million euros, an optional clause allowing Liverpool to turn the loan into a permanent transfer in the summer of 2027, though current interest does not mean a final decision has been made or the deal is already completed.
Araújo has made 11 appearances for the team across various competitions, scoring two goals and providing an assist. His two goals came in the Champions League against LASK and Villarreal, while Andoni Iraola has deployed him at center-back and right-back depending on match requirements.
At Barcelona, the player’s priority in central defense has diminished after Hansi Flick began seeing him closer to a right-back option, which contributed to opening the door for his departure in search of a clearer and more continuous role.
Araújo’s continued stay in England brings an important financial gain for the Catalan club, as Liverpool covers his full salary during the loan, and the final deal would add a significant revenue stream while continuing to ease the wage bill.
The deal’s appeal stands out when compared to the cost of his arrival from Boston River in 2018, which amounted to 1.7 million euros fixed, with variables that could allow it to rise to 5.2 million, making a potential sale much higher than the original investment.
The 27-year-old defender left Barcelona after 213 matches, 14 goals, and three La Liga titles, but he has not publicly finalized his continuation at Liverpool, preferring to focus on his form, keeping his approval and future contract terms an essential part of any agreement.
