Barnabas Varga held the breath of millions around the world after he suffered a horrific injury during his country’s match, Hungary, against Scotland, at the end of the first group matches of Euro 2024.
Varga was subjected to extremely violent intervention by the Scotland goalkeeper, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious, and doctors immediately intervened to treat him.
The Hungarian national team player was quickly transferred to the hospital, while the match continued and ended with a 1-0 victory for his country, preserving the hopes of qualifying from the best third place.
The Hungarian Football Association reassured the fans about Varga’s condition, after publishing a statement in which it confirmed that the player had regained consciousness.
According to the statement, Varga was taken to the hospital while he was conscious and is now in good health and under the necessary medical care.
The Hungarian Federation revealed that the player is suffering from a concussion and a fracture of the facial bones, and will undergo surgery in the coming hours in Stuttgart, and his participation in Euro 2024 with the national team has ended.
Varga recalled the unfortunate incident that happened to Christian Eriksen in Euro 2020. Fortunately, the Hungarian player’s condition was less serious and the matter was quickly brought under control.
