The Spanish newspaper AS revealed that Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has offered his services to Real Madrid through his agent, Jorge Mendes, who enjoys a very good relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The Portuguese international had already announced his departure from City at the end of the current season, and his next destination remains unknown, although he has frequently hinted at his desire to play in La Liga before retiring.
Over the past few weeks, the 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona, but the Camp Nou’s precarious financial situation makes completing the deal extremely difficult.
According to the report, Mendes presented Silva’s name to Real Madrid’s decision-makers, given the player’s desire to continue playing at the highest level and move to a club with a similar level of success to Manchester City.
Mendes hoped to capitalize on Real Madrid’s search for a new midfielder. With Silva available on a free transfer and possessing experience, he could be an attractive option for Perez’s management to fill the void left by the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
However, Real Madrid’s management rejected the idea outright and does not include Bernardo in their sporting plans. The player does not fit the established philosophy at the Santiago Bernabeu, which focuses on developing young players and signing only those under 25.
It’s worth noting that Juventus is the most interested and serious club in signing Bernardo, while Barcelona is waiting to secure a new striker and a central defender before considering whether or not to pursue a midfielder.
