Real Madrid announced details of the injury suffered by their defender, Raúl Asensio, during the recent match against Benfica in the second leg of the Champions League playoff, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Royal Club last Wednesday.
In an official statement, Real Madrid said: “Following medical tests carried out on Raúl Asensio by the medical staff, he has been diagnosed with a muscle strain in his neck. His recovery is being closely monitored, and he is receiving all the necessary support and care.”
Asensio sustained the injury after a collision with his French teammate, Eduardo Camavinga. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and further medical tests to determine the severity of the injury.
According to the newspaper AS, Real Madrid will most likely not risk playing Asensio and will keep him out of the Getafe match next Monday in La Liga.
The Spanish player is currently resting at home, where he will undergo daily assessments, with no rush to return to the pitch.
It is worth noting that Raúl Asensio has played 28 matches for Real Madrid this season in various competitions, during which he scored two goals and provided one assist.
