Real Madrid star leaves Spain camp with injury

Coach Luis de la Fuente has ruled Real Madrid star Dean Huijsen out of the Spain national team camp during the current international break due to injury.

According to a statement from the Spanish Football Federation, Huijsen arrived with the Spanish national team suffering from muscle fatigue and was unable to train on Tuesday or Wednesday. He was subsequently released and sent back to Real Madrid for treatment.

The former Bournemouth defender will undergo further tests upon his arrival at Real Madrid headquarters to determine the nature of the muscle injury and the expected length of his absence. Spanish newspapers are confirming that the injury is not serious or fatal.

The Athletic reported that Huijsen will only need to rest for a week or two at most, meaning he will return to Real Madrid’s matches as soon as the current international break ends.

The Spanish national team announced the call-up of Basque defender Aymeric Laporte to replace Huissen in La Roja’s squad for 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Georgia this week.

The 20-year-old Huijsen joined Real Madrid from Bournemouth for approximately €60 million and has made 14 appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
