The Relevo network confirmed that Luka Modric is living his final season at Real Madrid after the Royal Club decided not to renew the player’s contract.
According to the report, the Croatian international was prepared to reduce his salary significantly in order to continue for another year with coach Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
But in the end, Real Madrid’s management decided not to give Modric a new renewal offer, and were content with what the player had provided over 11 years in the Spanish capital.
At the same time, Real Madrid plans to honor Modric in the best possible way at the end of the current season, specifically after the Champions League final.
As for the 39-year-old’s replacement at Real Madrid, the management believes that Turkish Arda Guler can play in the midfield and not just on the wing, and he can ideally succeed Modric.
Modric’s departure from Real Madrid may mean that Toni Kroos is about to renew his contract for another year, after it was reported that the club decided that only one of them would remain, not both.
Modric’s next destination remains unknown, amid reports of great interest from the Saudi League in contracting with him, as well as offers from America, as well as attempts from his parent club, Dinamo Zagreb.
