Marca has revealed that Real Madrid star Raúl Asensio faces the risk of a lengthy absence, potentially up to six months, due to his continued struggles with an injury he has been suffering since the start of the season.
Asensio has a fractured leg bone and needs to be sidelined for at least two months to fully recover. However, he is refusing to do so because of the critical situation at Real Madrid in the center-back and right-back positions due to various injuries.
Real Madrid is facing a real crisis with injuries to David Alaba, Antonio Rüdiger, and Éder Militão, leaving Asensio as the only available option alongside Dean Hoesen. Feeling a sense of responsibility, the Spanish player has asked Álvaro Arbeloa to play him and is enduring the pain.
According to the report, any further injury to Asensio could potentially lead to a six-month absence. Nevertheless, he is determined to continue playing in upcoming matches and help his club at all costs.
Arbeloa is constantly worried about Asensio, as another injury would end his season. However, the Real Madrid coach has no other option, so he has accepted the risk of keeping the 22-year-old on the pitch. Asensio is expected to play against Villarreal on Saturday without any problems.
Real Madrid’s management rejected the option of signing a new center-back this winter and preferred to wait until the summer. Arbeloa’s plan remains to wait for the injured players to return, or, in the worst-case scenario, to promote some young players to the first team if necessary.
