Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has returned to the Spanish capital and underwent medical tests to determine the extent of the groin injury he picked up during Belgium’s clash against Spain in the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals.
Initial reports in Spain had sparked concern among fans, suggesting that Courtois could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, potentially ruling him out of the start of the new season under new manager Jose Mourinho.
However, the latest test results have brought immense relief to the club, revealing that the goalkeeper has escaped a serious injury. Consequently, he is expected to be fully fit and available immediately upon returning from his current vacation.
Pre-Season Plans Unaffected
The Merengues anticipate that this physical setback will not disrupt the player’s preparation for the upcoming campaign. Courtois is scheduled to rejoin first-team training during the final week of July, by which time he should be completely recovered.
Nevertheless, he is not expected to be risked in Real Madrid’s pre-season friendly in Austria, scheduled for August 1st against Italian side Fiorentina in Klagenfurt.
