Real Madrid’s management hopes to keep Thibaut Courtois for as long as possible, which will force them to break the rules and regulations in place for the Belgian goalkeeper.
Courtois’s contract with Real Madrid expires in the summer of 2026, and he has recently received several lucrative Saudi offers, forcing Florentino Pérez’s administration to act to secure him.
Relevo confirmed that Real Madrid has decided to break the one-year renewal rule for any player over 30, in Courtois’ case.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper will receive an offer to renew his contract with Real Madrid for two years, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2028, while maintaining his current salary, an unprecedented move for the capital club.
What could be called Real Madrid’s sacrifices stems from the high regard Florentino Pérez holds for Courtois, a result of his contributions since joining the club in 2018, transforming him into one of the most important goalkeepers in Los Blancos’ history.
Pérez believes that there is currently no better goalkeeper in the world than Courtois, and that letting him go would be a huge loss. He therefore deserves to break the mold, especially since his performances have not been affected by his age.
