Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Madrid will allow Andriy Lunin to leave next summer, provided they receive an acceptable offer.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper has been the first-choice keeper for the past month following Thibaut Courtois’ injury, and his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu still has four years remaining.
At 27 years old, Lunin has reached the age where he hopes to play regularly in top-flight competitions, making him open to leaving Real Madrid, amidst significant interest from several European clubs.
According to the report, Real Madrid will facilitate Lunin’s departure next summer, especially since his recent performances have not met expectations.
With Lunin’s departure, Real Madrid will begin searching for a solution to their goalkeeping problem. While it’s not an immediate issue, the fact that Thibaut Courtois is already 33 years old is causing concern for Florentino Pérez’s administration regarding the future of that position.
Initially, the search for a new goalkeeper will not begin next summer, even if Lunin leaves, unless Courtois suffers an injury. However, starting in 2027, the club will be working diligently to find a permanent successor to the Belgian goalkeeper in Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad.
It’s worth noting that Lunin has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, who are looking for a young goalkeeper to replace Yann Sommer. However, the player has postponed all negotiations until the end of the current season with Real Madrid.
