Éder Militão will miss the 2026 World Cup with Brazil due to injury.
The Real Madrid star had just returned to action about a month ago, before suffering a new hamstring injury in his left thigh during last week’s match against Alavés.
According to Cadena COPE, the 28-year-old will require surgery, ending his hopes of representing his country at the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Militão is expected to be sidelined for two to three months and should return to action at the start of next season.
Injuries have plagued the career of one of the world’s best center-backs, who has suffered two ACL tears in the last three years.
Despite the severity of the two injuries, Militao recovered well and performed well in the last month, which led Carlo Ancelotti to include him in Brazil’s squad for the March international break. However, he missed the match due to a sudden injury.
Militao returned in recent weeks and secured a regular starting place in Alvaro Arbeloa’s team before suffering an injury during the first half of the Alaves match. Real Madrid subsequently announced that his season was over, and it was later confirmed that he needed surgery.
Brazilian media published the list of players Ancelotti intended to call up for the World Cup, with Militao at the top. However, he will now miss out on his dream of appearing in his second World Cup.
