Joan Laporta has officially resigned as president of Barcelona, in preparation for running in the Catalan club’s elections next month.
Barcelona’s bylaws stipulate that the club president must step down from his position one month before the elections to be eligible to run for another term.
Several board members have also resigned, including Elena Fort, vice president for finance; Rafael Escudero, vice president for social affairs; and board members Ferran Oliver, Josep Maria Albert, Javier Barbány, Miguel Camps, Aurelio Mas, Javier Puig, and Joan Soler.
The interim president of Barcelona will be Rafael Ucete, with Josep Cubellis as his deputy and Alfonso Castro as treasurer. The other board members are Josep Ignasi Macia, Ángel Riudalbas, Joan Solé i Sost, and Cisco Pujol.
It is noted that the Barcelona elections will be held on March 20, and Laporta is competing in particular with Victor Font for the presidency of the club, with the winner’s term beginning on July 1.
