FIFA has suspended two Paris Saint-Germain stars until the end of the 2025 Club World Cup, confirming their absence from the semi-final match against Real Madrid.
The two players, Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez, were both sent off during the quarter-final match against Bayern Munich, which the French club won 2-0.
FIFA announced on Tuesday evening that the two players had been given two-match suspensions, meaning that even if PSG manages to overcome Real Madrid, they will miss the final at MetLife Stadium next Sunday against the winner of Palmeiras or Chelsea.
The two-match suspension was imposed due to the two players’ direct red cards for their violent tackles on Raphaël Guerreiro and Leon Goretzka. However, Paris Saint-Germain still has the opportunity to appeal the punishment in the hope of having it reduced.
Aside from the duo, Luis Enrique’s squad is fully prepared for the upcoming clash with Real Madrid, while Los Blancos will be without Ferland Mendy and David Alaba due to injury, and Dejan Huijsen due to suspension.
