Official: Real Madrid star’s absence from Sociedad match confirmed

Real Madrid’s squad for the second leg of the 2025 Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad has been left out of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s squad due to injury.

Courtois returned to Real Madrid from the recent international break with an injury that caused him to miss last Saturday’s La Liga match against Leganes at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Belgian international was expected to be in the Sociedad match, even if he was a substitute for goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. However, Carlo Ancelotti opted to leave him out until he fully recovered.

Courtois will be the fifth player to miss the Sociedad match, alongside long-term absentees Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, Dani Ceballos, and Ferland Mendy.

If all goes as planned, Courtois will be available for Saturday’s La Liga match against Valencia and will undoubtedly be ready for next week’s Champions League match against Arsenal.

Real Madrid has the advantage over Sociedad after winning the first leg at Anoeta 1-0, putting them closer to reaching the final and facing the winner of the Barcelona-Atlético Madrid match.
