Mourinho’s remarks came during the pre-match press conference ahead of the La Liga fixture against Sevilla, following a turbulent few days that saw Vinícius handed a four-match domestic ban alongside fierce criticism of his form and behavior.

Speaking about his relationship with the player, Mourinho said: “He is a wonderful boy, and it is very easy to have a good relationship with him.”

The Portuguese manager added: “If I were in his place, maybe I wouldn’t have stayed here, and I would have forced a move to a country where they respect him.”

He continued: “Because of his love for the club and the city, he ended up renewing his contract.”

Mourinho elaborated: “There is nothing and no one that can take away his joy for life,” noting that while pressure may affect Vinícius as a human being, it will not stop him from working or maintaining his bond with his teammates.

The Appeals Committee upheld Vinícius’s four-match suspension following his red card against Villarreal for pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair and protesting after his dismissal, confirming his absence against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander, and Valencia. The Brazilian is contracted to Real Madrid until June 2032.

Mourinho concluded by addressing the player’s stance, saying: “Madrid and Real Madrid are his home, and he has the ambition to continue making history and winning trophies.”
