Mohamed Salah has officially become the all-time leading goalscorer for the Egypt national football team in World Cup history, following his spectacular goal against New Zealand on Monday morning.
The “Egyptian King” had previously scored two goals during the Pharaohs’ campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia—one against the host nation, Russia, and another against Saudi Arabia.
In Monday’s match, after a brilliant one-two pass with Mostafa Ziko, Salah unleashed a powerful strike into the New Zealand net, marking his third historic World Cup goal in the Egyptian jersey.
With this milestone, Salah surpasses Egyptian football legend Abdulrahman Fawzi, who famously scored twice during Egypt’s debut World Cup appearance against Hungary in 1934.
This goal raises Salah’s international tally to 68 goals. The Liverpool star is now just one goal away from equaling his current national team manager, Hossam Hassan, as Egypt’s all-time top scorer across all competitions.
