Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón of Athletic Bilbao has entered Juventus’ radar to bolster their goalkeeping options during the summer transfer window, following his outstanding performances with his national team at the 2026 World Cup.
Juventus is searching for a goalkeeper to increase competition after a season that saw fluctuating performances and costly errors from Michele Di Gregorio. This is coupled with the club’s lack of conviction that the duo of Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin provides sufficient guarantees to compete for titles.
The Italian club had previously made Emiliano Martínez their primary target, even reaching a preliminary agreement with the Argentine goalkeeper. However, the deal stalled after Aston Villa rejected an offer ranging between €6 and €7 million, insisting on a higher fee.
Juventus was also linked with Parma’s Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Yet, Paris Saint-Germain’s strong intervention and imminent completion of a €35 million deal forced the Old Lady’s management to widen their shortlist of candidates, although the possibility of loaning Suzuki from the French club remains on the table.
The 29-year-old Simón boasts a strong profile after leading Spain to World Cup glory at the expense of Argentina. He also won the Golden Glove, having finished the tournament with the fewest goals conceded by a goalkeeper in World Cup history.
The Spanish shot-stopper is contracted to Athletic Bilbao until the summer of 2029 without a release clause. His estimated market value stands at €22 million, but his World Cup success and his club’s strong negotiating position could push the expected transfer fee to over €30 million.
