The veteran midfielder was forced to leave the field following an unintentional head collision with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli during last night’s Serie A match at the San Siro, which ended in a goalless draw.

The Milan statement revealed that the injury was a complex, multiple fracture of the left cheekbone, requiring immediate surgery at the La Madonnina clinic under the supervision of Dr. Luca Oteltano, with Milan’s medical staff members Stefano Mazzoni and Andrea Pulgeroni also present.

The club confirmed that the player’s season is officially over and wished him a speedy recovery before the start of the World Cup.

Such injuries typically require a recovery period of six to eight weeks.

Initial reports indicate that Modric will be able to participate in this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada with the Croatian national team, but only if he wears a protective face mask.

Despite being 40 years old, Modric had an exceptional season with AC Milan, appearing in 36 official matches, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
