Manchester United paid a “sharp fortune” to sack Amorim

Manchester United suffered a significant financial loss as a result of sacking Ruben Amorim, after it was revealed what the English club’s management had to pay to finalize the Portuguese coach’s departure from Old Trafford.

Amorim took over as United’s manager in November 2014, succeeding Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils paid Sporting Lisbon £11 million to bring him in.

According to English media reports, the final amount United paid to sack Amorim reached £15.9 million.

Thus, United’s total loss from hiring and then firing the Portuguese coach exceeds £36 million, in addition to his total wages over a year and two months.

It’s worth noting that United were forced to pay £14 million in November 2014 to sack Erik ten Hag, further highlighting Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s financial losses due to poor coaching choices.

Michael Carrick is currently managing Manchester United on a short-term contract until the end of the current season, and it remains unknown whether he will be given a new contract after winning 5 of the last 6 games, or whether a new manager will be hired next summer.
