The BBC reports that Liverpool’s management is considering making a move in January to sign a successor to Mohamed Salah, rather than waiting until the summer transfer window.
Salah has not performed as expected this season and has faced heavy criticism, coinciding with Liverpool’s overall decline. There is a growing sentiment within the Reds’ management to bolster their attack in the winter transfer window, especially after a significant opportunity emerged in recent days.
According to the report, Bournemouth winger Anthony Simeone, one of the Premier League’s best players this season, can leave his club for just £65 million, the value of his release clause, starting in January.
Liverpool officials see Simeone at this price as a genuine opportunity, but convincing him to move to Anfield will not be easy, given the close monitoring of the player by other top English clubs.
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham are all reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old.
Simeone has yet to make a final decision on whether to stay at Bournemouth until the end of the season or leave in January, knowing that his release clause can only be activated within the first two weeks of the transfer window, giving his club time to compensate him before the winter transfer window closes.
It’s worth noting that Simeone has previously stated that he is an Arsenal fan, but that this doesn’t influence his decisions or his professional career.
