Bayern Munich announced in an official statement that their young star, Lennart Karl, has suffered an injury and will be unavailable for selection by coach Vincent Kompany for a potentially short period.
Karl is considered one of Bayern Munich’s most prominent players and is sometimes nicknamed “Germany’s Lamine Yamal” after attracting attention at just 17 years old and becoming a key player for both his club and the German national team.
Karl unhappy about not playing against Real Madrid
German media outlets reported hours earlier that Karl was extremely disappointed at not playing even a minute in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
The young player had invited his family and closest friends to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, hoping to see him play against the club he had previously described as the greatest in the world and whose jersey he dreamed of wearing one day.
However, coach Vincent Kompany ultimately decided to keep the player on the bench for the match, which Bayern Munich won 2-1, bringing them closer to qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals.

Karl suffers injury in Bayern Munich training
According to Bayern Munich official statement on Friday morning, Karl suffered a sudden injury during the team’s training session on Thursday. After undergoing tests, he was diagnosed with a hamstring tear.
Although it is not a minor injury, the player will not be sidelined for long. He is expected to be out for only three weeks, meaning he will be available for the crucial period of the season at the beginning of May.
Thus, Karl will initially miss the match against St. Pauli on Saturday, as well as the second leg of the Champions League tie against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena.
In addition to the matches Bayern will be without their young star, he will also miss the Bundesliga matches against Stuttgart and Mainz, and the important German Cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen, scheduled to be played at the BayArena on April 22.
Karl hopes to return before the first leg of the Champions League semi-final – should Bayern Munich reach this stage – which is scheduled for either April 27th or 28th. If they don’t qualify, he could return against Heidenheim on May 2nd.

Karl’s stats with Bayern Munich this season
This season, Karl has played 36 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists.
He received his first call-up to the German national team in March 2026, playing 72 minutes across two friendly matches against Switzerland and Ghana.
The young player hopes to recover in time and perform well for the remainder of the season to secure another, more important call-up for the 2026 World Cup.
Germany is in a group with Curaçao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador at the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in mid-June.
