Germany played out a 1-1 draw with Paraguay after regular and extra time before crashing out on penalties. This marks Germany’s third consecutive World Cup exit at the earliest knockout stage, sparking fierce criticism against Nagelsmann’s squad selection, tactics, and style of play.

Speaking after the match, the 39-year-old coach stated:

“Resign? No, I will not. I can continue if the German Football Association (DFB) wants me to. I want to stay here; if they don’t want me, they have to tell me.”

He further added, “I would be happy to prepare for Euro 2028 and the UEFA Nations League, but the DFB must clarify its stance. If they don’t want me, they should let me know immediately.”

A joint press conference featuring DFB sporting director Rudi Völler and Nagelsmann was scheduled to take place after the World Cup exit, but it was abruptly canceled. A final decision regarding the manager’s future is expected to be announced later.

Nagelsmann took over the German national team in 2023 following the dismissal of Hansi Flick. While he successfully guided Germany to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, things took a turn for the worse over the past year due to his highly questioned World Cup squad selections and underwhelming performances, culminating in the historic defeat to Paraguay.
