Liverpool received another setback when Jérémy Jacquet suffered an injury during Rennes’ Ligue 1 match against Lens.
Liverpool had agreed with Rennes to sign Jacquet for €55 million, with the player set to join the English club next summer.
In the 69th minute, Jacquet went down after a heavy challenge that landed him on his shoulder.
Unable to continue playing due to the pain, Jacquet left the field injured, with the severity of the injury and the recovery period uncertain.
Liverpool are now hoping that Jacquet’s injury is not a broken collarbone, which would mean a lengthy absence from the pitch.
Rennes lost 3-1 to Lens, dropping to sixth place in Ligue 1 with 31 points, while Lens leads the table with 49 points.
