Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Bologna to sign Riccardo Calafiori.
Calafiori was one of the stars of Euro 2024 for the Italian national team, despite Luciano Spalletti’s squad’s early exit from the competition in the round of 16.
Arsenal had agreed personal terms with the player in recent weeks, but negotiations with Bologna were very tough.
In the end, Arsenal will buy Calafiori for just 40 million euros, plus another 5 million in variables.
Half of this amount will go to Calafiori’s former club, Basel, based on the agreement between the Swiss club and Bologna which states that they will receive 50% of any future sale of him for an amount higher than 4 million euros.
Calafiori is Arsenal’s second summer signing, after the Gunners activated the purchase clause in David Raya’s contract for 32 million euros.
