Inter Milan have initiated concrete moves to extend Federico Dimarco’s contract until 2030 after Barcelona’s interest in the Italian left-back caused concern within the Lombardy club.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona made contact with Inter during the closing days of the transfer window to explore a potential swap deal involving Dimarco and Alejandro Balde, though discussions failed to materialize into an agreement.
The 28-year-old is currently under contract until June 2027, with Inter holding a unilateral option to extend the deal by an additional season, effectively securing him through 2028.
Dimarco had previously sent a public message to the board, stating: “I expected the club to speak with me after what I delivered last season, but that hasn’t happened.”
Inter responded by arranging a meeting in Madrid between new sporting director Dario Baccin and the player’s agent, Arturo Canales, ahead of Inter’s Champions League fixture to lay the groundwork for a long-term extension.
Negotiations start from Dimarco’s current salary, estimated at €4 million net per season, with Inter recognizing that the player’s tactical importance and international stature warrant improved financial terms.
The left-back holds a strong bargaining position coming off a historic season in which he recorded seven goals and 17 assists, breaking the all-time record for most assists in a single Serie A season while claiming the Serie A Player of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are monitoring the outcome of the negotiations. Although Hansi Flick has relied on Xavi Espart and João Cancelo on the left flank, Sporting Director Deco remains keen on securing a specialized left-back—though Inter securing Dimarco until 2030 would effectively close that door.
