The English Premier League has imposed a £2 million fine on Manchester City for 22 different violations.
At first glance, one might assume the reason is a breach of Financial Fair Play regulations, given City’s numerous cases in this regard that are yet to be finalized.
However, surprisingly, the cause is attributed to manager Pep Guardiola. Over two seasons, his team was late returning to the dressing room between halves on 22 occasions, leading to the club being fined as a result.
Guardiola responded to the penalty while on the club’s US tour, saying, “I will try to make my half-time team talks shorter.”
Cases of Financial Fair Play violations are still pending, and Guardiola previously stated that if City were relegated to the second division, he would be more likely to stay with the club than if they won the Champions League again.
