Club president Ángel Torres confirmed that contact has been made with the defender’s representative, though finalizing any deal depends on the tactical needs of manager José Bordalás, at a time when Getafe are also pursuing moves for Jadon Sancho and Dani Parejo.

Speaking on the radio show Tablero Deportivo on Spain’s National Radio regarding the possibility of signing Ramos, Torres replied: “His agent, his brother, spoke with me,” confirming his communication with René Ramos, who manages the former Real Madrid captain.

He added: “We have six center-backs,” explaining that Bordalás has requested reinforcements for the flanks, meaning the acquisition of a central defender is not currently a priority. Nevertheless, the president kept Ramos among the options on the table and did not rule out postponing the operation until January, leaving the file open without a definitive agreement or deadline.

The Carvajal deal highlights the nature of the financial hurdle facing these moves; according to El País, the full-back agreed to a reduced salary, but the valuation of his contract by La Liga still exceeded Getafe’s available financial headroom. Torres ultimately provided a personal guarantee against future revenues, allowing the club to secure the necessary approval to complete the signing.

Getafe announced the capture of Carvajal on October 13 on a contract running until June 30, 2027, following the expiration of his ties with Real Madrid. As for Ramos, now 40 years old, he has remained without a club since leaving Monterrey at the end of 2025, having played his final official match against Toluca on December 6, meaning regaining competitive rhythm would be one of the challenges of his potential return to Spain.

In the case of Sancho, the tactical need is more apparent, given Bordalás’s desire to reinforce the flanks. Torres previously told Movistar on October 15: “We spoke with Sancho three or four months ago, and again today,” while Cadena SER confirmed that the coach is keen to secure the English winger, who is available as a free agent.

However, the absence of a transfer fee does not make the operation straightforward; Mundo Deportivo, citing information from journalist Pablo Pinto via DAZN, reported that Sancho’s requested salary hovers around four million euros—a sum Getafe struggle to afford. The club is therefore searching for room within their salary cap, with player registration remaining a primary obstacle to turning conversations into a finalized deal.

Parejo, 37, whose contract with Villarreal has ended, remains an additional option to reinforce the midfield. According to El País, Getafe are offering some of their targets the chance to return to competition with the flexibility of a winter departure for free or via a low release clause—a formula the club is using to attract big names, though sporting priority and financial compliance will ultimately dictate their next signing.
