Germany star hints at Real Madrid move

Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has hinted that his ultimate destination, either next summer or the one after, will be a move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are looking for a new center-back, and the German defender’s name has emerged as the top choice for Florentino Perez’s administration, especially given his impressive performances in the Bundesliga over the past two years.

Schlotterbeck’s contract with Dortmund runs until the summer of 2027, and he has been in intensive negotiations with his club regarding an extension. He is expected to announce his final decision next March.

Meanwhile, a fan created a picture of Schlotterbeck wearing a Real Madrid jersey, and the 26-year-old responded by liking the image on Instagram, a clear indication of his desire to join Los Blancos.

German media had previously reported that Schlotterbeck wanted to either join Real Madrid or stay with his current club, noting his lack of interest in offers from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and even Barcelona.

The major sticking point now is that Dortmund is demanding a hefty fee, potentially as high as €70 million, for the defender next summer, while Real Madrid prefers either to sign him for free in the summer of 2027 or for a significantly lower fee of no more than €30 million in June 2026.
