Luka Modric hinted that he was close to continuing with Real Madrid, when he stressed that he intends to retire from the Royal Club and will do everything in his power to achieve this.
Modric’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the current season, and renewal negotiations for another year are still ongoing between the two parties, in light of what is rumored that the player has accepted a significant reduction in his salary in order to continue.
In a press interview, Modric was asked about his decision to stay or leave Real Madrid and he replied, “I have already made my decision, but I cannot announce it now.”
He also added, “I was clear that I wanted to retire from Real Madrid. This is my current desire. I want to have a farewell like the one Toni Kroos had.”
Regarding other news circulating about his retirement and his shift to working as an assistant with Ancelotti, he responded by saying, “I don’t know where it came from. I don’t plan to retire and I feel physically fine.”
He concluded, “Do not look at age. It is just a number. I am in very good physical condition and I do not intend to retire now.”
