Eberechi Eze was on the verge of joining Tottenham last summer, but at the last minute he switched to their bitter rivals, Arsenal.
Afterward, when Tottenham’s manager was asked if he had truly wanted to sign Eze, he responded with a single sentence: “Who is Eze?” implying that he didn’t care about him and didn’t consider missing out a significant loss for his team.
Eze appeared against Spurs in an Arsenal shirt in the twelfth round of the English Premier League, and perhaps he delivered the perfect response to the renowned Danish manager.
The England international scored a hat-trick, leading the Gunners to a crucial victory in the London derby.
Eze opened his hat-trick against Tottenham with a goal in the 41st minute, then scored another in the 46th minute, and completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute.
Notably, Eze celebrated one of his goals by looking at the Tottenham fans and laughing mockingly, a gesture that reflected the gloating he evoked from Spurs after the backlash he faced following his move to Arsenal.
Eze became only the third player in Arsenal’s history to score a hat-trick in a London derby. This hat-trick also marked the 400th in Premier League history overall.
