Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has sparked further doubts regarding the future of Omar Marmoush, despite the Egyptian forward’s stellar performance in a 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the team’s final pre-season friendly.
Marmoush turned City’s deficit around by scoring two goals within three minutes in the second half, delivering a strong on-pitch response amid ongoing speculation about a potential summer transfer.
The Egyptian international is attracting heavy interest from several Premier League clubs, most notably Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, thanks to his exceptional versatility across the frontline.
When asked about Marmoush’s future, Maresca stated: “The answer must be similar to my answer about James Trafford. The players work every day and want to play, so when they don’t play, they are not happy.”
The Italian manager’s response lacked a clear confirmation of Marmoush’s stay, linking his situation to his desire for regular playing time, thus leaving the door wide open for a departure this summer.
Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for an initial fee of £59 million, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2029.
Over a year and a half, the Egyptian forward has made 61 official appearances for City, scoring 16 goals and providing 6 assists.
He concluded his first season with 8 goals and 3 assists in 25 matches, while also winning the Premier League Goal of the Season award for his stunning strike against Bournemouth.
During the 2025-2026 season, he netted 8 goals and provided 3 assists in 36 appearances, contributing to Manchester City’s triumphs in both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. However, his pre-season brace was seemingly not enough to dispel the uncertainty surrounding his future at the Etihad Stadium.
