Egypt national team manager, Hossam Hassan, has once again voiced his strong support for the Palestinian people amid their ongoing suffering. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Pharaohs’ highly anticipated World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match against Argentina, the legendary coach refused to back down despite recent controversy.

Previously, the manager—affectionately known as “El-Ameed” (The General)—celebrated Egypt’s qualification to the knockout stages after a victory over Australia by raising the Palestinian flag. The gesture triggered a widespread Israeli campaign calling on FIFA to penalize him. However, football’s governing body cleared the Egyptian coach, stating he committed no punishable offense.

When questioned again about the Palestinian cause, Hassan delivered an emotional and human-centric response:

“If a person loses their empathy for the suffering of the Palestinian people, they can no longer be considered human, regardless of their nationality or affiliation,” Hassan stated.

He further highlighted the humanitarian crisis, adding: “Thousands of civilians, including children, are being killed, while the Palestinian people are left homeless in the open. If I don’t feel what is happening as a human being, my life has no value. This applies to anyone, regardless of their religion.”

Hassan concluded with a powerful call to action for the global sports community:

“I call upon all athletes and media professionals worldwide, across all religions and nations, to utilize the soft power of football to deliver one unified message: Let the Palestinian people live. They are only asking for their right to life. Just as we raise the banners of respect and fair play in football, we demand justice in life and respect for humanity.”
