Niko Kovač’s side continued their strong start to the Bundesliga campaign, preserving their unbeaten record after managing to decide the encounter at Signal Iduna Park in the closing minutes.

The substitutes played the starring role; Maximilian Beier scored the match’s sole goal in the 80th minute with a curling effort following a pass from Jobe Bellingham—who had entered the pitch just a minute before providing the assist—rewarding Dortmund for their relentless second-half pressure.

The goal came after several attempts were denied by goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, while the crossbar thwarted Serhou Guirassy, before the hosts finally managed to translate their dominance into three points, leaving Frankfurt frozen at eight points in 13th place.

Dortmund raised their points tally to 17 from five wins and two draws, moving three points ahead of Bayern Munich, who have played one game fewer. BVB also got back to winning ways after two consecutive draws that had followed four straight wins at the start of the season.

Defensive solidity stands out among the key reasons for their impressive run; BVB have conceded just four goals in seven matches and kept their fifth clean sheet, continuing to boast the league’s best defense so far while scoring 12 goals.

In the day’s other results, RB Leipzig thrashed visiting Elversberg 4-0, while Werder Bremen secured a 3-2 away victory against Mainz, pushing both sides to 12 points in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Paderborn defeated Hamburg 1-0, whereas Augsburg drew 1-1 with Union Berlin, and Köln played out a goalless draw against Schalke. The round had opened on Friday with Borussia Mönchengladbach defeating Stuttgart 3-2 to claim their first win of the season.

The matchday concludes on Sunday with two crucial fixtures in the title race: Hoffenheim hosts Bayer Leverkusen before Bayern Munich visits Freiburg. Both Leverkusen and Freiburg sit on 13 points each, while Bayern can draw level on points with Dortmund and reclaim the top spot on goal difference should they return with all three points.
