Luka Modric is closer than ever to renewing his contract with Real Madrid for another year, according to AS.
Last week, reports emerged that Real Madrid’s management had decided to thank the Croatian international for his legendary time at the Santiago Bernabéu and look for another young midfielder.
However, the latest report from AS reveals a significant development and a greater change in the 38-year-old’s fate, thanks to new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso.
Florentino Pérez’s administration sought Alonso’s opinion on a renewal for Modric, and the Spanish coach responded that he wanted the player to remain on his roster for another year.
Alonso believes that Modric can make a difference technically due to his excellent physical condition despite his advanced age. He also believes that his leadership and leadership influence in the dressing room are very positive, which is exactly what he needs at the beginning of his new tenure with the club.
From the management’s perspective, a final decision has not been made regarding Modrić’s renewal, but with Alonso’s recommendation, the Croatian legend is likely to continue in the Spanish capital as he had dreamed.
The current trend within the management is to keep Modrić and renew, but on the condition of a further salary reduction, something the player accepts and has no objections to.
Modrić’s primary plan is to remain with Real Madrid until the end of next season, participate in the 2026 World Cup with Croatia, and then retire.
