Despite interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Liverpool star close to contract renewal

Dominik Szoboszlai has reached an agreement with Liverpool to extend his contract, with the official announcement expected in the coming weeks.

The Hungarian international had been on the radar of several major European clubs after his impressive performances at Anfield over the past two seasons, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich being the most prominent targets.

English media reports indicate that Szoboszlai and his family feel very comfortable in Liverpool, both at the club and in the city. The 25-year-old’s significant and crucial role with the Reds has made him prefer staying with the team, regardless of other offers.

Szoboszlai, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2028, will receive a substantial pay rise. The new contract is expected to run until at least the summer of 2030 and will not include a release clause, ensuring the player’s continued presence at Liverpool for another four years.

Liverpool signed Szoboszlai in the summer of 2023 from RB Leipzig for €70 million.

Since then, the Hungarian has made 121 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 19 assists. He was instrumental in the Reds’ Premier League title win last season.

Szoboszlai is known for his versatility, capable of playing in his natural position as a central midfielder or as an attacking midfielder. Manager Arne Slott has also utilized him on the right wing and right-back on occasion.
