Catalan media have agreed that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made the decision to dismiss Xavi Hernandez as coach of the team at the end of the current season.
Xavi had announced his departure at the end of the season last January, before retracting his decision and agreeing with the management a few weeks ago to continue until the end of his contract in the summer of 2025.
But according to recent news, Laporta was angered by Xavi’s statements before the last Almeria match, in which he said that it was difficult for Barcelona to compete with the major clubs and Real Madrid due to the economic crisis.
Xavi’s words caused Laporta to decide not to travel with the team to Almeria on Thursday, and after deliberations he decided that Xavi would be dismissed and asked the sports administration to search for another coach to succeed him.
It is expected that Laporta and Barcelona will announce this decision after the next match against Rayo Vallecano next Sunday, specifically after Barcelona secures second place in La Liga and thus qualifies for the Spanish Super Cup.
