Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo sent a signed Portugal national team jersey to US President Donald Trump, containing a special message.
Trump was in Canada for the recent G7 summit. While in Alberta, he met with leaders from around the world, including European Council President António Costa.
Costa previously served as Prime Minister of his native Portugal and has a close relationship with Ronaldo, who recently led the Sailors to their second-ever UEFA Nations League title.
During his meeting with Trump, Costa presented him with a Ronaldo jersey emblazoned with the words “Play for Peace,” a message from the Portuguese legend to the US president.
Ronaldo’s message to Trump comes amid a major global crisis in the Middle East, with a war raging between Iran and Israel. It is assumed that the US president has promised to intervene in the hope of ending the conflict in the near future.
