Goal, citing Cadena COPE, reported that Real Madrid management is preparing to initiate formal negotiations with Courtois, driven by a mutual desire to conclude the matter swiftly rather than delaying into the closing months of the season.
Details of Courtois’ Proposed Real Madrid Contract
The Belgian keeper’s current deal runs until June 30, 2027, with the club’s initial plan aiming to add an extra year to keep Courtois at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2028.
Spanish outlet AS reported that both parties are close to reaching an agreement, despite Real Madrid’s standard policy of extending contracts for players over the age of 30 on a year-by-year basis.
While Courtois may seek a guaranteed two-year extension, potential differences regarding contract duration are not viewed as a significant hurdle, given that club management and manager José Mourinho remain convinced there is no superior goalkeeper available on the market to replace the 34-year-old.
