Football fans were in for a treat in the match between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 play-off.
Real managed to achieve a very valuable victory at the Etihad Stadium, which brings them close to qualifying for the Round of 16, and increased the pain and suffering of Pep Guardiola.
City took the lead through Erling Haaland in the first half, then Kylian Mbappe equalized at the start of the second half.
In the final minutes, the fun was great, as Haaland scored the second goal from a controversial penalty kick in the 80th minute.
A few minutes later, substitute Brahim Diaz was able to equalize again for Real, before Jude Bellingham killed the match with a goal in the last minute.
This is Real Madrid’s first victory at the Etihad Stadium in history, and it seems deserved considering the number of opportunities that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad wasted and how they dominated almost the entire match.
This is Real Madrid’s first win against any big team this season, after losing twice to Barcelona, in addition to defeats to Liverpool and Milan, and drawing with Atletico Madrid in both legs.
A draw by any score in the second leg next Wednesday will be enough for Real Madrid to qualify for the round of 16, while City must win by two goals.
