Barcelona has made another move in hopes of convincing Ter Stegen to leave the Catalan club during the current summer transfer window.
Joan Laporta’s plan remains clear: to bring in Juan Garcia from Espanyol to be Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper next season, with the experienced Szczesny as his replacement.
Ter Stegen’s contract at Camp Nou runs until the summer of 2028, and he is determined to continue and become Hansi Flick’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.
According to Sport, Barcelona’s management is considering terminating the 33-year-old goalkeeper’s contract to facilitate his departure, rather than waiting for an offer from another club.
Barcelona officials have contacted Ter Stegen’s entourage and offered him his full salary for next season (more than €10 million) in exchange for immediately terminating the contract and ending his time with Barça.
It is not yet known what Ter Stegen’s response will be, although Sky Sports previously confirmed that he decided not to make his departure easy due to a feeling of disrespect in the way he was treated by the club in recent weeks.
Barcelona hopes to resolve this matter quickly and not wait until the end of the transfer window to end the German goalkeeper’s relationship with the Catalan club.
