Barcelona is close to concluding its first summer deal

“Sport” newspaper reported that Barcelona is very close to signing Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino, to be the first summer deal for the Catalan club.

Barcelona had previously completed its agreement with Guido Rodriguez, the Real Betis player, but the dismissal of Xavi Hernandez and the appointment of Hansi Flick was enough to reverse the inclusion of the Argentine.

According to recent news, Flick has given Barcelona the green light to sign Merino and considers him a great fit for his style and will add more strength to the Blaugrana midfield.

Merino is 27 years old and has previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United. He also played 20 international matches with the Spanish national team and was on the list to participate in Euro 2024.

“Sport” considered that the contract with Merino may be a prelude to the departure of Frenkie de Jong, who is said to have greatly angered the management by participating in Euro 2024 with the Netherlands despite his injury.

To ratify Merino’s transfer, Barcelona is waiting for him to obtain approval from La Liga regarding his economic situation, after which negotiations will begin that will not be difficult or costly with Real Sociedad’s management.
