The Moroccan Football Federation is exploring the possibility of convincing Real Madrid star Tiago Pitarch to represent the Moroccan national team internationally, according to the newspaper El Mundo.
The 18-year-old has Moroccan roots, as his grandfather was born in the Moroccan city of Al Hoceima.
Moroccan officials successfully persuaded Real Madrid star Brahim Díaz to wear the Atlas Lions jersey instead of Spain’s, and they hope to repeat this scenario with the promising midfielder.
According to the report, Pitarch currently prefers to represent Spain, despite appreciating all of Morocco’s efforts.
The Spanish Football Federation will also take action to secure Pitarch’s participation with La Roja in the future, starting with his inclusion in the Spanish Under-21 team during the upcoming international break this March.
Pitarch has played in 5 matches with Real Madrid’s first team this season after Alvaro Arbeloa decided to promote him last February, and he has attracted attention thanks to his outstanding performances in midfield.
