Arsenal moved sole top of the Premier League after securing a precious 1-0 victory away at Liverpool, capitalizing on Manchester City’s slip-up against Brighton.
The clash took place at Anfield on Sunday as part of the ninth round, with Mikel Arteta’s side taking three vital points in their title defense to extend the gap over their direct rivals.
Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute, connecting with a low cross from Declan Rice at the far post and sliding it into the net to give the visitors an early lead.
Liverpool attempted to fight their way back into the game and created dangerous opportunities—most notably a strike from Florian Wirtz that rattled the crossbar—but lacked clinical finishing, allowing Arsenal to preserve their lead until the final whistle.
Arsenal Extend Lead as Liverpool Remain Fifth
The win lifted Arsenal to 24 points from nine matches (eight wins, one defeat), opening a three-point lead over Manchester City, who stayed on 21 points following their 1-0 loss to Brighton.
Meanwhile, Liverpool remained in fifth place with 15 points after suffering their second defeat of the campaign (alongside four wins and three draws), leaving them nine points adrift of Arsenal.

Arsenal now turn their focus to the UEFA Champions League, where they travel to face Slavia Prague on Wednesday, November 4, in matchday four of the league phase, before hosting Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday, November 7.
As for Liverpool, they face back-to-back away fixtures; visiting Turkish side Fenerbahçe on Wednesday, November 4, in the Champions League, before traveling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Sunday, November 8, in their final match before the international break.
