Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo has chosen the club he will join in the upcoming winter transfer window, following a fierce battle between Premier League giants over the past month to sign him.
According to sources, Manchester City made positive progress in recent days, and officials there now believe they are well-positioned to secure the 25-year-old’s signature after he himself expressed a preference for a move to Pep Guardiola’s side.
According to English media, four other Premier League clubs also inquired, to varying degrees, about Semenyo, who has a £65 million release clause in his contract.
These clubs are Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea. However, Manchester United’s interest in the player cooled as Semenyo is expected to join Guardiola’s team, while Chelsea opted not to pursue the deal.
Liverpool have also inquired about the terms of the deal, and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will accelerate their initial interest given Alexander Isak’s broken leg. Tottenham, however, remain the favorites to secure the transfer.
It’s worth noting that Semenyo’s release clause is only active during the first ten days of January; this clause was crucial in convincing him to stay at Bournemouth when he signed a new contract last July.
