Don Garber, the commissioner of Major League Soccer (MLS), expressed his outrage at comments made by Ibrahim Hassan, the director of the Egyptian national team, in which he advised Mohamed Salah against joining any American club in the next stage of his career.
Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, and there is significant interest from MLS in acquiring him. Don Garber previously expressed this interest, stating that the United States would be an ideal destination for him in the next phase of his career.
Ibrahim Hassan Advises Salah to Avoid Ending Up Like Messi!
Salah is currently absent from the Egyptian national team during the international break due to injury. However, before the friendly match between Egypt and Spain, Ibrahim Hassan was asked his opinion on where the “Egyptian King” should go.
Ibrahim Hassan advised Salah against moving to MLS “so he doesn’t end up like Messi,” as he no longer enjoys the same level of fan support he had when he was with Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain.
The legendary Egyptian right-back continued, “I hope Salah stays in Europe. If he joins one of the top Saudi clubs or decides to return to Egypt to play for Al Ahly or Zamalek, that would be great, but I don’t think Salah is thinking that way right now.”
Garber Can’t Comprehend Ibrahim Hassan’s Statements
International newspapers reported Ibrahim Hassan’s statements, which Don Garber couldn’t believe, noting that he had never heard before that Messi’s popularity had diminished because of his move to the MLS.
Garber told The Guardian, “This is the first time I’ve heard anything like that. Lionel Messi was and still is the most popular player in the world.”
He added, “I would be happy to send an Apple subscription to the Egyptian national team official so he can watch as many of Messi’s matches as possible.”
He continued, “Previously, Mexican national team coaches would exclude players who played for American clubs, but things have changed now. There are many players in the league who play for their national teams, and we have three players who play for Argentina.”
“We always hear claims that the MLS won’t reach the desired level, and that’s absolutely untrue,” he added.
Mohamed Salah’s Next Destination
It’s said that four European clubs are interested in signing Mohamed Salah: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich. Italian clubs are also showing particular interest in bringing the 34-year-old back to “football paradise.”
According to American media, a move to the MLS is an option for Salah, and only one club is interested in signing the Egyptian star: LA Galaxy.
It’s impossible for Inter Miami to sign Salah at the moment, as the league allows clubs an exception to the salary cap of three players per team. Inter Miami has already reached this limit and cannot add another big-name player with Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Germain Bertramy already on their rosters.
The Saudi Professional League remains the most likely destination for Salah, as Al-Ittihad has already begun negotiations with the Egyptian star to bring him in and lead the club’s project next season.
